Teaching Naked: Good Idea or Just Another Overeaction?
News flash: The Chronicle of Higher Education suggests that PowerPoint is over-used and boring. This is not exactly leading edge news, but an article by Jeffrey Young ("When Computers Leave Classrooms, So Does Boredom" ) July 24, 2009.
http://chronicle.com/article/Teach-Naked-Effort-Strips/47398/ takes another look at the use, or non-use, of various technologies inside (and outside) the classroom.
While the first section of the article might lead the reader to assume that IT has no place in the classroom, the argument is not quite that simple. Rather, as many of us have been aware of for years, the challenge is to find where technology enhances learning and where it detracts from it. The questions raised by the article continue to be timely: how do we navigate between student expectations and student needs? how do we make in-class time engaging and how do we make out of class time support what happens in the classroom? how do we keep up with funding the necessary infrastructure? and, most importantly, how do we make time to learn, or support the learning of, the ever-shifting technologies that could enhance learning?

I really believe that PPT is way over used. If used correctly it is good but that is not what happens plus kids need some stimulation but naked lol...

Excellent article, it's suprising that the student body is the resistant party, but as is always the case you have to educate the uneducated.
Debate is a wonderful medium for expanding the mind and should be used more in the classroom. The only downside is that it is sometimes difficult to draw certain students into this type of interactivity.

Having considered my previous comment further I now believe that students who are somewhat reclusive in their educational and social behaviour may benefit greatly from being pushed into lecure room interaction rather than withdraw further!

Nice article. Teachers these days uses power points presentation so much that students are also using this method for making their work simpler. This excess use of technology is making the whole education system crippled. There should be some limits must be imposed on the use of technology in the classes.

Not everyone knows how to use PowerPoint presentations properly. Some people add a lot of text and then just read from the slides. If lectures are done this way, it can't be any good. If a presenter knows how to be interesting and informative, then presentations are a good way to summarize the whole point of a lecture. Technology is not necessarily a bad thing, but it can become one if you can't use it.

Pretty catchy title and article you have here. If this would be one of the titles you'll write in the first page of your power point presentation, it will definitely make the audience be interested in the following pages until it ends.
You really caught me with your title. But seriously, I guess a school shouldn't reject the use of computers specially on presentations because it's not really the equipments that make it boring but the presenters behind it. Giving trainings for better presentation might be a wiser decision if you ask me.

I believe that technology allows our children to advance and learn quicker. While technology in some ways makes us lazier I still think it is doing more good than harm.

I am an OLD guy (59) and can only imagine the over use of technology in the lecture halls. I believe that the presenter is what makes or breaks a good lecture. A good lecturer who is passionate and captures the audience needs no props.
